What is the SocialFlow AttentionScore™?

The SocialFlow AttentionScore™ tells you the value of your content on the social graph. Whether you look at the aggregate SocialFlow AttentionScore™ for your account as a whole, or on an individual message level, it’s a powerful and accurate view of a complex set of factors that determine the resonance of your messaging.

How is the SocialFlow AttentionScore™ derived?

We look at 3 things to determine your SocialFlow AttentionScore™:

  • Historical Performance of Language: some topics are seasonal, and some are more popular with niche audiences versus wide audiences. We look at the language used in your messages and compare that against past performance of similar types of content over time.

  • Audience Activity: How active are the members of your audience and what are they clicking on right now?

  • Real-time resonance: When it comes to fast-moving, real-time social networks like Twitter and Facebook, topics can change in an instant--SocialFlow constantly measures, ranks and re-ranks the overall performance of your content against the real-time data sources we analyze.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q) Does the SocialFlow AttentionScore™ measure your content against just your audience or all of Twitter and Facebook?
A) The SocialFlow AttentionScore™ algorithm places the most weight on your Followers and the conversations on your Facebook page. The reason is simple, they’re the ones who will see your content first and share it with their network. We do take your Followers’ Followers into account and also Twitter and your Facebook page as a whole. However, we place a lower weight on those conversations.

Q) Is the SocialFlow AttentionScore™ available on other social media management systems?
A) Yes. We’re working with a number of partners to make the SocialFlow AttentionScore™ and optimization available to as many users as possible.  Additionally, you can use our WordPress plugin or Drupal module to score content as soon as it’s available. We’re working to integrate AttentionScore into other social media management systems, so stay tuned.

Q) Is the SocialFlow AttentionScore™ an actual score?
A) Yes, the AttentionScore™ assigns a score out of 100 to every piece of content you have in the SocialFlow Content Queue. It is important to note that the AttentionScore™ is based on real-time conversation and data, and as such, your score changes as your audience’s interests shift.

Q) How is the SocialFlow AttentionScore™ used in SocialFlow?
A) We use the SocialFlow AttentionScore™ to rank and re-rank content in the Content Queue. Based on your publishing parameters and the AttentionScore™, SocialFlow will choose to publish the best piece of content at the best time.

Q) Why would I use the SocialFlow AttentionScore™? I know my audience better than an algorithm.
A) Nothing can ever replace the ability of humans to create content and engage with people. However, the problem that SocialFlow solves better than anything else is getting your content in front of your audience on Twitter and Facebook when they’re most likely to pay attention and engage. When you’re dealing with hundreds, thousands, or millions of people, it becomes a big data problem to solve and that’s what we’re great at.
