What to do if Two-Factor Authentication isn't working

The two most common issues with Two-Factor Authentication are:

1) Using the incorrect pin.
2) Having your phone set to the incorrect time.

Why your phone's time matters

Most authenticator apps generate time-based one-time passwords (TOTPs). Each PIN is generated from a shared secret key and the current time. When you enter a PIN, the server validates it against its own current time. If your phone's clock is even slightly off, the PIN can be rejected before you have a chance to use it.

What can you do to fix it?

1) Ensure that your phone's time is set to the current time. If your phone is not set to the correct time, 2FA will not work. Each time a pin is generated, it also generates a timestamp. The timestamp is checked with the server, and if the time is off, the pin will not work.

If you have an iPhone, navigate to Settings > General > Date and Time, and ensure that "Set Automatically" is set.

If you have an Android, ensure that you have the setting for "Network-provided time" toggled on.

2) Ensure that you are using the correct pin. Open the authenticator app on your phone and remove all existing entries for SocialFlow. This will prevent accidentally using the incorrect pin.

3) Once you have confirmed steps 1 and 2, completely reset two-factor authentication by following these instructions here.

*It is critical that you scan the barcode on your SocialFlow User Settings page.

If this still doesn't work, you'll want to try a new authenticator app, which can be found in your phone’s app store. One we recommend is FreeOTP.
