Composer 1x: Difference in Registered Users Subscribers Count

Piano's Segmentation Engine available in Composer 1x, is a powerful tool that enables you to categorize and target different user segments on your website. However, there may be instances where you notice discrepancies in the user counts between segments. This article aims to clarify the differences in user counts, specifically between the "Subscribers" and "Registered Users" segments, and how these counts are calculated.

Understanding User Segmentation

Before we delve into the differences in user counts, let's clarify what each user segment represents:

  • Subscribers: Users categorized as "Subscribers" have converted on a recurring payment term and have an active subscription. To be part of this segment, a user must also have at least one page view within the last 31 days.

  • Registered Users: "Registered Users" include users who have registered with a known user ID. Like "Subscribers," they must also have at least one page view in the last 31 days to be part of this segment.

Differences in User Counts

Here are some key points to consider when examining the differences in user counts:

  1. Traffic-Based Segmentation: Both the "Subscribers" and "Registered Users" segments are traffic-based. This means that users who do not have any page views will not be part of any segments, regardless of their subscription status or registration.

  2. Active Subscribers: The "Subscribers" segment consists of active subscribers with active access, which includes paid and non-paid subscriptions.

  3. Active Visitors: To be part of the "Registered Users" segment, a user must have registered with a known user ID and had at least one page view on the client's website. This segment includes users who registered or logged in and viewed pages.

  4. Subscription Start Date: Unlike the "Registered Users" segment, the "Subscribers" segment does not consider when the user subscribed. As long as a user has an active subscription and at least one page view in the last 31 days, they will be part of the "Subscribers" segment.

  5. Time Period Inclusion: The counts provided by the Segmentation Engine may differ from other reports. For example, the "Subscribers" segment may include users who subscribed before the last 31 days but visited the site in that period.

Discrepancies in user counts between the "Subscribers" and "Registered Users" segments can be attributed to the different criteria used for segmentation. It's important to understand that both segments are based on traffic and page views, and they categorize users differently based on their subscription status and registration.
