The Insight platform provides APIs that allow you to upload meta data you might have about individual content items or about individual users. Such externally supplied data can be used to enrich the content profiles and user profiles so that, e.g., reporting, targeting and personalization can take place over these data dimensions.
The Insight platform is generally agnostic about where such externally supplied data comes from, and the semantics attached to the data.
Enriching the content and User Profiles is beneficial to boost User response for Campaigns, and also provide deeper insight into User behaviour and even assist Cross device tracking of your user base.
Information regarding Gender, User preferences within applications, Income level, home/work address, recent purchases & purchase history can boost Audience response by then applying this knowledge to target future offers from your Advertisers by setting up DMP segments or custom categories to then target campaigns to.
