To find the status of each subscriber on a mailing list, download the mailing list as a CSV file from the ESP dashboard:

Open the ellipsis menu (three dots) next to the relevant mailing list ID.

Select Download mailing list.
Once the download is complete, open the CSV file and check column B, Status, for each subscriber.

2— The user is pending email verification. When Double-Opt-In (DOI) is enabled, new users receive a verification email and remain in this status until they verify their email address. -
-2— The user is not subscribed because they received a hard bounce due to an invalid email address. -
-3— The user is not subscribed because they marked an email as spam. -
-5— The user is unengaged. An unengaged user is an active user who has not opened or clicked any emails from any publisher campaign within the defined check period. More details are available here. -
-9— The user is not subscribed because ESP blacklisted their email address.*
Bounces and deferrals
-
Statuses
-2,-3, and-9are considered hard bounces. We do not send further newsletters to users with these statuses. -
Users with status
1may still have a soft bounce. We continue sending emails until either a hard bounce occurs or our heuristic algorithm determines that they should be deactivated due to email non-deliverability. -
Deferrals in the Deliverability graph report usually indicate a temporary issue on the receiving email server that limits email sending. We will continue attempting delivery until the email is delivered successfully or we receive a bounce error.
-
The Piano ESP dashboard UI does not currently provide a report listing users with soft bounces or deferrals.
Why ESP may blacklist an email address
*We protect our clients’ email reputation because repeated sending from untrusted or spam sources can reduce sender reputation. This can increase the percentage of emails that go to spam traps or are not delivered to end users.
To help prevent this, our system validates incoming email addresses. If an address should be blacklisted, it is blacklisted when a user attempts to subscribe with it. ESP may blacklist an email address for several reasons, including when it is associated with disposable email systems, such as Mailinator, or spam traps. These systems can be used to spoof email traffic, reduce sender reputation, and do not represent valid recipients.
