Sometimes an RSS feed lacks a link to an image illustrating the story. This can occur due to a system hiccup, when an image was never provided, when the image resides in a custom RSS tag, or when the image is smaller than 250×250 px.
When ESP cannot find an image in the RSS feed, it attempts to use the image from <meta property="og:image"> on the article page.
If ESP still cannot find an image on the page, it analyzes the article body, selects images at least 250×250 px, and chooses the one with the highest resolution.
If no suitable image is found, ESP extracts keywords from the article, performs an automated web image search, and inserts the most relevant result into the newsletter.
We recommend using a placeholder image per feed or selecting an image from a predefined pool to avoid irrelevant web search results.
