Stripe Billing Client Guides

This is the client-facing guide series for Piano's Stripe Billing integration. It is organized in three parts. Part 1 (Overview) applies to everyone. Parts 2 and 3 come in two versions. Pick the one matching how you process payments: Stripe Payments (Stripe-native processing) or BYOP (Bring Your Own Processor, for non-Stripe processors such as Braintree, Datatrans, GoCardless, Cybersource, and others).

Part 1: Overview (all clients)

Part 1: Stripe Billing Integration Overview: what's new, key differences, supported features, payment methods and markets.

Part 2: Set Up and Configure Stripe Billing

  • Part 2 — Stripe Payments: enabling Stripe Billing, connecting your account, Revenue Recovery (Smart Retries), invoice settings, and the switch timeline.

  • Part 2 — BYOP: connecting Stripe for Billing while keeping your processor, disabling automatic invoice emails, failed-payment and invoices-sent settings, and the Dual Retry run.

Part 3: Manage Subscriptions with Stripe Billing

  • Part 3 — Stripe Payments: subscription operations, upgrades & downgrades, Stripe dashboard data, reporting, best practices, and troubleshooting.

  • Part 3 — BYOP: the BYOP renewal flow, BYOP vs Stripe-native differences, grace/retry handling, async upgrade cancellation behavior, reporting, and troubleshooting.
