How do the different Promo code setups affect Checkout

Under ManagePromotions you have the option to set up multiple types of promotions. More information about this is available here.

Based on the different setups, the following scenarios may occur:

  1. 100% discount in combination with a subscription term

In the case of a 100% discount, the user will need to provide their credit card data, because the promotion is applied only to the 1st period. Other periods are not for free and in order for the following recurring payments to work, the credit card details need to be provided. The user will not be charged for the first free period but in order to verify the credit card for future recurring payments, the user's card will be authorized by a small verification amount which is refunded immediately afterwards.

  2. Price off discount, that matches the term price on a subscription term

If the option Apply to all billing periods is selected in the Promotions setup, the user won't need to provide their credit card details as this subscription will be free of charge.

If the setting is not selected, the user needs to provide their credit card details, as the Promotion will apply only to the first billing period.

  3. Unlocks a term 100% or full price off discount on a fixed time term

In this case, the user won't need to input their credit card details, as there is no future recurring billing on fixed time terms and the first period is for free when the promotion is applied.
